At 7am the National Weather Service extended our Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories until 4pm today.
In making the decision the NWS said:
Northwest winds are gusting to 30 miles per hour. That will create considerable blowing and drifting snow tdoay. Snow drifts in excess of three feet will be common.
The widespread heavy snow has ended.
Lake Effect will produce locally heavy snow.
Six to 10 inches fell across West Michigan last night.
Many north south roads in rural areas have drifted shut and have become impassable. Travel is strongly discouraged until plows clear the roads.
There are many reports of cars stranded and abandoned because of the heavy drifitng.
Now, here is the latest forecast:
Snow and blowing snow today. Temps falling to around 5 by this evening. Wind Chills will run below Zero.
Tonight: Snow showers, lo around -2. Wind Chills about ten below.
Sunday: Another two inches of snow. Hi near 20. Wind Chills 10 below.
Next week: Day time hi's in the single numbers, overnight lo's below zero.
