The West Michigan Freedom Cruise is a 25 mile motorcycle and classic car Honor Ride for a local fallen soldier. It begins at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids, MI runs through Sparta, MI and returns to the ballpark.
Right before the Freedom Cruise Honor Ride, participants, patriots, veterans, members of the military, community leaders, and the West Michigan community pay special tribute to all those that served and especially to those whose ultimate sacrifice was given for our freedom.

On September 22nd, 2019 Finish the Mission, a West Michigan veterans relief fund, is hosting its 6th annual fundraising event in support of West Michigan Veterans and their families – Freedom Cruise 2019. This is an afternoon event, that includes a Motorcycle and Classic Car Honor Ride, and a memorial ceremony for a fallen son of West Michigan, Army Sgt. Chad Vollmer.
Army Sgt. Chad Vollmer gave the “last full measure of devotion” to his country when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while stationed in Afghanistan and is Freedom Cruise’s 2019 honoree.
Since our founding, Finish the Mission has selected one fallen hero from West Michigan to celebrate at the Freedom Cruise with a commissioned portrait, to honor, respect and forever memorialize” our local heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice. In honoring one, the volunteers at Finish the Mission hope to honor all who serve and who have served this great nation.
At Freedom Cruise 2019, over 1,000 riders and classic car owners will meet at Fifth Third Ballpark to escort a portrait commissioned by Finish the Mission to forever memorialize Sgt. Vollmer, and his family in an honorary procession through the streets of northern Kent County,” Sgt. Vollmer.
ALL proceeds from Freedom Cruise 2019 will go to provide assistance to West Michigan veterans and their families throughout the year. We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to “making West Michigan the most Veteran Friendly community”. Finish the Mission stands in the Gap to serve veterans and their families when there is no place left to turn. The men and women who have worn the uniform of our country and “stood in harm’s way” deserve to know that we will be there for them when they need us most. They did their part, now it’s our turn!
