There are plenty of kids’ books out there, but really good bedtime stories are hard to come by. So when thousands of parents claim they’ve found one that helps their little ones fall asleep fast, we pay attention and that’s the case with “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site,” by Sherri Duskey Rinker.
The book was actually released back in 2011, but so many moms and dads think it’s a winner, it’s racked up close to 3,000 five-star reviews on Amazon. The story is about the end of the day at a big construction site and one by one, the trucks and equipment are getting ready for bed. It’s like “Goodnight Moon,” in that you say goodnight to each one, and it’s supposed to get the kids to nod off in no time.
"Especially if read in a quiet, soothing tone, I can't think of a more perfect bedtime book,” one reviewer writes. “You know how seeing someone yawn usually makes you yawn yourself? I think that's the exact effect the illustrations have.”
As tired parents, we’re willing to try almost anything to get our kiddos to sleep easily. And something must be working, the author has expanded the series to include four more bedtime books involving trucks and construction equipment. Happy reading.
