Kris Kristofferson To Receive CMA Lifetime Achievement Award

Kris Kristofferson will be honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 CMA Awards on November 13. The award is given to an artist who has achieved legendary status in country music. Nelson was the first winner in 2012 followed by other country icons like Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.

Although Kristofferson won't be in attendance himself, he will be honored with a special tribute from Dierks Bentley, Sheryl Crow, Chris Janson, and John Osborne from Brothers Osborne. The four country stars will be performing Kristofferson's classic hit, "Me And Bobby McGee."

“Kris is a living legend whose impact on our genre has been monumental,” CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern says. “He is the definition of an icon and someone our community holds with such high regard. I’m thrilled our board selected Kris this year for one of CMA’s highest accolades. Though he won’t be joining us at the CMA Awards, I hope our tribute performance brings a big smile to his face.”

Kristofferson who got his start in the music industry through songwriting, now has 30 studio albums to his name. He took home his first CMA Award in 1970 for Song of the Year for "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down." Kristofferson's most recent CMA nomination was in 2012 for Musical Event of the Year for "roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die," performed alongside Snoop Dogg, Jamey Johnson and Nelson.

The 53rd Annual CMA Awards will air live on November 13 from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Country music's big night will be hosted by Carrie Underwood with co-hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
