Emma Stone redefines Cruella de Vil in the live action remake, "Cruella."
The film, due out May 2021, is directed by Craig Gillespie -- known for "I, Tonya."
"In 1970s London, young fashion designer Estella de Vil becomes obsessed with dogs' skins, especially Dalmatians, until she eventually becomes a ruthless and terrifying legend known as Cruella."
I'll be honest, I didn't think I'd like Emma Stone for this role. Her quirky, nice-girl persona makes me really like her. Which maybe is why they cast her as Cruella. Maybe it'll give the character the warmth and connection audiences will need to build some empathy and invest in this character, because honestly, how could anyone like or feel sorry for Cruella de Vil?!
Gotta be honest: it's not always the best when an American actor plays a character with a British accent. It seems un-necessary? Why not just cast a British person to play a British character?
However, I absolutely came around once I watched the trailer (above).
I haven't been the most invested in seeing every single live action remake from Disney, but this is one I will watch.
Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, and Mark Strong join Stone among the cast.
"Cruella" is currently scheduled to open (in theaters!!!) May 28, but the release date could change because of the pandemic.
