Brantley Gilbert said it “never gets old” to hear his song on the radio for the first time.
The country hitmaker shared his reaction when he caught his newest single, “Want You Back,” on iHeartCountry’s Tulsa, Oklahoma-based 106.1 The Twister on Thursday evening (September 4). “Want You Back” made its world premiere and played one day early on iHeartCountry stations before its official debut on Friday (September 5). The Georgia-born artist wrote in his caption on Instagram that “hearing your song on the radio for the first time never gets old.” Watch him listen to the breakup anthem for the first time here:
Gilbert teamed up with HARDY, Will Weatherly and Hunter Phelps to write “Want You Back.” Weatherly and Brock Berryhill produced it. Gilbert sings on the track: “Well girl, I gotta tell you the truth/ I wish you would’ve keyed my truck/ Sunk my boat/ Drank all of my beer/ Smoked all of my smoke/ Hooked up with all my buddies/ Set my double-wide on fire/ Put diesel in my gas tank/ And a Buck knife in my tire/ ‘Cause I’m sitting here missing you, baby/ Reminiscing on the love we had/ Girl, I wish you would’ve done something crazy/ ‘Cause I don’t wanna want you, I don’t wanna want you back.”
“Here’s the deal... We’re a long way from riding off into the sunset, but the folks decided it’s time to put out a greatest hits package, including three new songs — available 12/12,” Gilbert announced on Friday (with a portion of his announcement muted, per his management, he said). “Of those, my new song ‘Want You Back’ is out now!”
Gilbert launched his career with his debut studio album in 2009, and has since become known for “Bottoms Up,” “Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” “Country Must Be Country Wide,” “One Hell Of An Amen,” “Kick It In The Sticks,” “The Weekend,” and more. Listen to “Want You Back” here:
