Chris Evans just made a Marvel superfan’s life with a surprise appearance during his tattoo session.

Scott Clayton spent over a year and a half working with artist Luke Atay at East Side Ink in New York to create a hyper-detailed Winter Soldier-inspired sleeve with Captain America’s battle scarred shield “ripping out from the skin.” Josh Lord, who co-owns the tattoo shop, famously gave the original Avengers members Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Hemsworth their matching tattoos.

Lord calls Clayton, “such a solid guy… and always is so nice," adding he’s the ultimate Cap fan, with “an extensive collection of Captain America memorabilia…including [three] shields!” So when Cap himself showed up to see the 18-month long tattoo session come to an end in March, Clayton “was in shock.” Lord told “PEOPLE” about the exciting meeting, saying “Chris went out of his way to introduce himself and asked Scott to wait and take a picture together," adding that he’s, "a classy guy."
