Here’s a fun way to boost your school attendance.
Students at Southern Huntingdon County High School in Pennsylvania made history last week by riding a 150-year-old steam locomotive to school instead of their usual buses.
The coal-powered train on the East Broad Top Railroad, now a restored tourist attraction, carried the students to campus on Friday morning along restored rails.
Railroad officials say this may be the first time in the 21st century that most of a student body has arrived at a U.S. school by steam train.
The old coal train now serves as a tourist attraction, giving rides on the historic railway. It was definitely a one-time event, though—the students had to go home on regular school buses at the end of the day.
