Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid won a bronze medal in the men's 20km individual race at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, but his winning ways didn’t continue through the after-race part of the day, shocking viewers with a tearful confession during his post-race interview.
Speaking to Norway's NRK, Laegreid said he met the love of his life six months ago but cheated on her three months later.
He told her about it a week before the race, calling it the worst week of his life.
The 28-year-old, who also won relay gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, said he chose to go public in hopes she might see how much she means to him.
He later said he hoped his confession didn't overshadow teammate Johan-Olav Botn's gold medal win in the same event.
