Italian stunt pilot Dario Costa made aviation history by becoming the first person to land a plane on a moving train and then take off again. Flying a Zivko Edge 540 aircraft, Costa touched down on a small runway set up on the last car of a train traveling at 75 mph. The landing was essentially blind because the plane's angle of descent and the train's forward motion made it impossible to see the runway.
Costa relied entirely on his training and instincts to pull it off. Years of planning, simulations, and controlled tests went into preparing for the stunt, since rehearsals on an actual moving train weren't possible. He also had to deal with heavy turbulence and shifting air speeds from the train before completing a vertical takeoff back into the sky.
