Glendale Community College’s graduating class is not happy with the school or AI right now.
Graduation was held on Friday, and the school decided to use AI to read the names of the graduates.
What could go wrong? As they walked across the stage to receive their diplomas, it skipped hundreds of names and didn’t match who was on stage.
As the issue became obvious, GCC president Tiffany Hernandez stood up and said to the crowd, “Here’s what happening. We’re using a new AI system as our reader. Yep, yep. So that is a lesson learned for us.”
That’s when the crowd and grads started to boo loudly.
It got louder when Hernandez said they weren’t going to have a do-over.
When the anger got more obvious, the grads whose names were skipped were allowed to walk across the stage again….with a human reading the names.
